BARNS & BRIDGES

Picture

“MORMON BARN”
This is one of those iconic images that any photographer, worth his salt, must try to capture. I, and about 3 dozen other photographers, gathered at sunrise for the obligatory shot with the Grand Tetons in the background. My schedule was such, I had only one chance to take the picture, and I got very lucky. For about five minutes the sun was rising and clouds were floating by, my lucky day.

“WHITE ROCK CITY BARN”
This is a really cool painted Rock City Barn; I just wish I could remember where it’s located. I know it’s south of the Great Smoky Mountains on some road, maybe Route 19 on the way to Georgia. Anyway this is a lesson learned, write down stuff. However, I did follow the rule, take the picture when you see something interesting, as you may never get the chance again, or find it.

This barn is along Route 41, south of Manchester, Tennessee.  You see the Meramec Cavern advertising while driving in one direction, and Rock City advertising while driving in the other.

“RED ROCK CITY BARN #1”
This Rock City Barn is located along Route 19, from Cherokee to Bryson City south of the Great Smoky Mountains. Did not have a clue it was there, and I did a lot of research to get the locations of painted barns on the internet. It is always a thrill to stumble upon something you were looking for, and did not know it was there.

“CAMPBELL’S COVERED BRIDGE”
This covered bridge is in Greenville, South Carolina near Hendersonville, North Carolina. When my wife and I travel, I’ll pull out a road map, if driving, or a map of the final destination, if flying. I pull up the Images Google site, and enter cities along the route, or surrounding the final destination to see if there’s something interesting or unusual to photograph. I’ll also search the web for items of interest, such as covered bridges, lighthouses, and I also will take a peek at Trip Advisor. In this case, we were on our way to the Great Smoky Mountains, and I found this bridge on one of the covered bridges searches. This can take a while, but I’m anal, and like to know where I’m going, and what I want to photograph!
